Camino de Santiago, Spain

In 2013, David’s wife embarked on a long-time goal of walking the Camino de Santiago, an ancient pilgrim path which begins in many parts of Europe but which always ends in Santiago, Spain at the cathedral which houses the relics of St. James. In six weeks, she walked the 500 miles from St. Jean Pied de Port in France across the Pyrenees and through Northern Spain to Santiago. When she returned home, she found waiting for her the canvases shown below.

Artist’s Statement

I felt very close to Jane while she was away. I even kept her hours, getting up at midnight to paint as she began her walking day. Using a small guide book for the Camino, I imagined what she might be seeing and what she might be going through as she walked about 15 miles each day. What I painted came from my heart. I have never traveled to that part of Spain.
